York (just miles from the Snack Food Capital of the World) has its own capital claim. For years, York claimed to have been the first capital of the U.S. Apparently, some pesky historians have disputed that exact claim: http://www.yorkblog.com/yorktownsquare/2007/12/first-capital-et-al-1.html.
As a child, the history that we learn is set in stone, but then you start to read more and figure out that history is a little less factual and a lot more about interpretation. As author Diana Gabaldon recently paraphrased: history is written by the victors. Which might be why we in Hanover take particular glee in mentioning that York surrendered to the Confederate Army.
